Commencement

‘Tis the season. June is the month when teenagers and (mostly) 20-somethings in the hundreds of thousands across Canada and the US graduate from high school or a post-secondary programme. These rare events in a person’s life demand pomp and circumstance and celebration.

All of that is fine, but, as Seth Godin points out, every day is commencement day.  Graduation is the end of a journey and, more importantly, it’s also the beginning of a greater one. In this sense, it shares the same feature as every other day – if we choose to make it such. Every day is a new opportunity to see the world differently, to contribute, to understand.

Every day is commencement day for all of us – if we choose.
